I just went to the apple site and totaled up the features I want:

512 mb ram ($75)
60 gb Hard drive ($75)
Apple care ($250)
ibook 12" ($999)

= $1399 (+tax?)

Then went to the macmall site:

512 ram
30gb hd
12 ibook
case/printer
apple care

=$1234

I can deal with the base model but my only concern is how much would it cost to upgrade the Hard drive from the apple store say in 1 years time? Is that a costly procedure?

And just to compare the 12 Powerbook was:

512 ram
60gb Hard drive
Apple care
12 power book
case/printer
Apple care

=$1694

eeep. you cant upgrade the iBook's HDD without breaking your warranty inc. applecare. Is it worth the extra cash for 30G more space. I'm looking into getting an iBook too. I'll be getting the biugger heard drive, but student discounts and rebates helps a lot. i also want bluetooth. If you can set up a network storage or connect up to a firewire drive, then you can save yourself some cash.

I think MacMall will order one for you w/ what you want. Then you can by-pass the tax. :)
