my ibook currently has 512 mb of ram, the 256 extra upgrade was from apple because i didn't want to void the warranty. Now i'm ready to add a 1gb dimm in there. i know that the recommended ram for the ibook g4 is 2100, but the 256 dimm from apple is 2700. My question is, if i purchase the powerbook g4 ram from crucial.com, would it be fine for the ibook.

Yes, PC2700 memory works fine in the iBook. When I bought a 512 MB module for my 1.2 GHz iBook I chose PC2700 rather than PC2100 because it was only £1 more expensive. Of course the iBook won't be able to take advantage of the faster memory, but you're more likely to be able to use it in a future computer or to sell it. If the price difference between PC2100 and PC2700 isn't much, there is no reason to get the slower memory.

Edit: Sorry, I didn't catch that you were already running PC2700, so of course you know it works fine. The answer to your question is still yes, because the PowerBook uses standard DDR333 PC2700 2.5V memory. Just navigate to the appropriate memory manually, as Crucial's website sometimes charges more when you tell them you have an Apple computer.
