Half way through the year and I'd say it's been a pretty good year for music. There ares till a lot of albums I haven't gotten around to picking up but so far my list is:

Franz Ferdinand (Self-Titled) (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=6596762) - I listened to this way too much when it first came out and yet I'm still not sick of it.

Modest Mouse - Good New for People Who Love Bad News (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=6395765) - Got this album, then ran out and bought their previous album. They are so bloody good.

The Walkmen - Bows + Arrows (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=5305635) - Aside from The Rat (which I listen to far too often) this is a great album to listen to from start to finish.

Sufjan Stevens - Seven Swans - Not as good as Welcome to Michigan.... but this guy is just writes great, sad songs.

A.C. Newman - The Slow Wonder (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=14819581) - This guy writes most of the New Pornographers songs and probably the best pop song writer around.

Beastie Boys - To The 5 Boroughs (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=15069574) - Didn't like it at first but it has completely won me over. Open Letter to NYC is fucking great song.

Upcoming Albums...I think September will be a very profitable month for Matador Records as both Interpol and The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion are releasing new albums. In true JSBX style, the album is going to have lots of guest appearances. Apparently DJ Shadow, Chuck D and Eliot Smith will all appear on the album. I just hope it isn't as sucky as their last album.

Only two new releases I've bought this year are the new Modest Mouse and The Streets' latest release. I'm quite happy with both of them.

Another vote for Modest Mouse here, and the Ferdinand album ain't to shabby either. Haven't picked up the new Stevens disc yet, but I loved 'Welcome to Michigan'.

Firewater - 'Songs We Should Have Written' is quite good, even though it's a collection of covers. Not as powerful as The Ponzi Scheme (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=100265), but if you're a Cop Shoot Cop/Firewater fan it's definitely worth picking up.

Also, Wilco's latest 'A Ghost Is Born' (http://phobos.apple.com/WebObjects/MZStore.woa/wa/viewAlbum?playlistId=15654298) is pretty damn nice.

I'm a big fan of Firewater fan but hadn't heard much about Songs We Should Have Written. Any really odd covers on it?

I'm a big fan of Firewater fan but hadn't heard much about Songs We Should Have Written. Any really odd covers on it?Would 'This Little Light Of Mine' do? :)

Among my favorites:

'Diamonds and Gold' (Tom Waits)
'Hey Bulldog' (Beatles)
'Some Velvet Morning' (Nancy Sinatra)
'Folsom Prison Blues' (Cash)
'Paint it Black' (Stones)

Some other good stuff like 'The Beat Goes On' (Sonny Bono) and 'I Often Dream of Trains' (Robyn Hitchcock) too. Overall a nice addition to my Tod A. collection.

I thought - after being erroneously informed - that David Lee Roth was rejoining Van Halen this past spring and that they were coming out with a new album. Turns out it's Sammy who rejoined and it's not a new album but three new songs on YET ANOTHER greatest hits collection. I mean seriously, unless your name is Led Zeppelin or Pink Floyd or the Beatles, how many friggin greatest hits albums does a band need?

Guess they're having trouble paying off those Hollywood Hills mansions still.

I'm eagerly awaiting Chevelle's new album, System of a Down's new album, and the new album by Queens of the Stone Age. I know all three are coming, right around winter, but names have been released for neither, nor have definite release dates.

Other than that, I don't have a lot that I'm looking forward to.

That is a very odd collection of songs. I sorta assumed they'd be covering their contemporaries. Me thinks I'll have to check that out.

Never listened to Cop Shoot Cop, any suggestions on where to start?

John Frusciante - Shadows Collide with People has been my favourite album of 2004... this guy is just a genius

The new Beastie Boys album has grown on me a ton recently, as I have become addicted to "Oh Word?"

and just this week, I gave the new Cure album (self titled) a second chance, and was pleasantly surprised. its a keeper.

i am looking forward to the new interpol, as well as the new U2 record in the fall
