I am thinking about buying and apple 20'' display to use as and external display for my ibook. I know about the vga to dvi issue, but I recently found this item: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B0000932AE/002-3994376-8458406?v=glance
on amazon and I was wondering if this cable will do the conversion tricky.

Has anyone tried this?
Anyone got the apple display to work with an ibook?

Any reason you're buying an Apple display vs. one of the many other 20" LCD's out there?

While I think the iBook is a great buy considering how much you get for your money, I can't say the same for Apple's display line. I'd be looking at another manufacturer unless there was a specific reason for an Apple branded display.

Well besides the fact that they are very good looking, I can get one for 699 with the student discount and that is a good price for a 20 widescreen monitor.

also, I like that it has firewire connections on the back.

It's not a bad price, just not a great price.

For example - Dell's 20" Widescreen is currently $449 from their small business section.
