Kinda cute, actually. But goes to a whole new level of rumor/conspiracy nuttiness. I could certainly see where one would put those together, I guess.

As someone at .com pointed out, he also used "Yosemite" and that didn't make sense. Au contraire ( ;) ), this - taken with the other words - means the new iMac will be blue and white, have a big ghosted G5 on it and a handle or two.

:D :p

Mark my words...

Everyone get out your tinfoil hats...

;)

That is a conspicuous set of keywords to use though. *starts searching for the tinfoil* The question is, was this cryptic message referencing a new iMac lineup, or a special edition iMac?

Edit: "Yosimite" is probably the project's name. There, whew, now I've added my part to the conspiracy.

Now all we need is someone crazy enough to go through the wwdc stream and post copies of the results that came up for each search...

I think you might've missed my "Yosemite" reference above, and the meaning of it. It's already been used (http://www.apple-history.com/frames/body.php?page=gallery&model=g3blue).

Did you know that Apple will reuse code names to throw off rumors and also to pinpoint the source of a leak? Yep, it's cool.

1) They foster doubt about a potentially true rumor by giving it a code name that has already been used before. See the post above mine.

2) They give different code names to different independent development teams, so if a rumor pops up talking about a certain code name, they can narrow down the leak.

3) They make very confusing code names, just to throw you off. For example, the code name for Newton OS 2.0 was Newton OS 3.0.

MacBidouille's find is absolutely cool! Steve's use of those search terms could not possibly have been random. Of course, he's likely just yanking our cranks.

As for Yosemite, somebody on .COM also pointed out that Steve searched for Half Dome, which is an area inside Yosemite National Park. So if we believe in conspiracies, it sounds like the half dome LCD iMac form factor will stay around.

Wasn't Steve married @ Yosemite? Perhaps he used the terms because he was enamored with the good memories of his marriage?

Do you think that they'd really keep all the sensitive unreleased model info on a demo computer? http://forums.applenova.com/images/smilies/hmm.gif

Um, yeah. Where else would they keep it? http://members.rogers.com/inactionman/ai/screwy.gif

Honesty, if I was Jobs and in charge of a company with such a HEALTHY and overactive rumor community, I absolutely, positively would fuck with the rumor kids by putting all sort of hints in the demos.

It's almost like a secret forum, like back in the .com days.

I guess we'll see whether Jobs was playing with our fragile little minds during his keynote at Apple Expo Paris (http://www.apple-expo.com/) on August 31, 2004.

Until then, I'll crawl back into my bunker. ;)

They were both for iMac, the first was just "iMac" the second SJ added some extra criteria, though I can't remember what.

I would too. :)

Seriously, though...he did say at Macworld in January that they'd be doing cool stuff to celebrate 20 years of the Mac, and so far, they, uh, didn't. No, showing us a nice high-res version of the "1984" commercial (with the added iPod, I remember how all the conspiracy theorists wrapped their noodles around that) doesn't count. And isn't the Paris expo the last major event of the year? When's Tokyo Macworld?

. o O (Could my dreams for the aMac (Anniversary Macintosh), a lower-end-then-eMac computer shaped like a pearl white rendition of the old-school Macintosh (small screen and all) actually come into frutiton? Nah...but in any case, a new iMac (and an anniversary one, no doubt) would certainly be something to celebrate. I just hope that they don't screw it up. I like the current iMac so much...)
