I was thinking, after reading what seems like the 100th post on "buy now or wait", that we should help our newbies out by having a monthly (bi-weekly?) report on the current rumblings/rumors/convential wisdom about buying computers. I thought to respond to the post with usual litany of questions "do you need it now?" etc but decided I wouldn't.

What do you guys think about that? Having some members post their opinions about purchasing timelines, etc? I think it could be a great resource, especially for new users/switchers who aren't so savvy on the macweb yet. :)

Yeah, I've mentioned/suggested this myself more than a couple of times... ;)

Our own, in-house "buying guide", done as a sticky or a dedicated page. This site IS more than just a message forum, so it could just be on a standalone page, as is the one on macrumors.com, if that was a better way to go?

Months ago I said "we get so many redundant, "here we go again" posts, threads, questions, etc. about "what do I buy, and when?"...and offered several ideas and suggestion to help stem the flow.

I'm not a web person and can't do the actual CREATION of it...I'm just the idea guy.

:p

I like this idea. :)

Unlike just a time-between-updates page ala MacRumors, maybe we could list the pros and cons of each model...making an informed buying decision and all that.

Luca:"The video cards are still shitty, but you'd be an idiot if you didn't spend the extra 50 bucks for the 9650 upgrade" :D

Good idea. I do like macrumors.com's "time between" info (and we should include such info, because it's important), BUT it could certainly be augmented with more "meat 'n' taters" info like what's good and bad about certain models or lines, and real-world input/advice from folks who actually own one?

We could make the ULTIMATE one-stop buying guide!

That *ULTIMATE* line totally reminded me of 'A Series of Unfortunate Events'. I'm no Jim Carrey fan, but I really enjoyed that movie. :)

This OT was brought to you by the letter G and the number 7. :p

Yeah, good idea. I'd like to see AN offer more than just a message board. We have a lot of passionate, well informed and articulate posters here - surely we could leverage that talent and offer something back to the noobs. :)

In fact we could even offer a moderator twist to the whole thing.

Luca's advice: up the RAM from newegg, but don't expect to play WOW on it. :grumble:
Murbot says: update now, why the hell not?! :smokey:
Brad's recommendation: I could tell you ... but first I want you to fix up this thread title.

Or perhaps offer some select users the chance to be in charge of a specific product family they know pretty well - that way, you can split the workload. :\
