Use LaCie d2 DVD Drive w/iBook or PB?

Hello all. I'm considering purchasing either a 12" iBook or PB w/combo drive, then getting the new LaCie d2 drive to use with it. I'll save $ on the Apple while getting a better DVD option than Superdrive. Losing portable DVD burning capability is not a concern.

Will anyone currently using the LaCie with an iBook or PB provide insight on performance and satisfaction or lack thereof? Any feedback is appreciated.

I haven't used a LaCie drive myself, but I know that people here speak highly of them. From what I understand, they are good quality drives and pretty reasonable prices. However, you can save yourself a few bucks if you pick up a 5.25 inch inclosure and an internal DVD burner and put it together yourself.
