I think you're thinking of a

There have been
landers on Venus... mainly
Russian Soviet ones,
the Venera missions ( 3 through 14... not all "successful" ), but temperatures that melt lead, sulfuric acid rain, and atmospheric pressures equivalent to 1km below the sea meant that none lasted long.
