I sometimes wonder if the whole Flat-Earth thing is just a bunch of people each thinking they're trolling all the others, and trying to be more dedicated to the "bit". And then eventually, the feedback loop kicks in and they start to actually believe it.

The internet is perfect for insane theories. In the olden times, if you had a wacky idea, chances are that no-one you knew or met shared it. Eventually you gave up on it because no-one thought the same way. But the internet allows you to find those people, and suddenly there's
literally dozens of you with the same wacky idea.
