Well.... I found it on the web.

I forgot the write up but basically it was surefire way to ensure you always get the previous month. Given I struggled with that and I think it was also a platform compatibility issue. Originally I was doing this on macOS terminal and now I've moved it to a CentOS VM purpose built. Trying to recall, I think the shell/command differences were what caused me to land on it the way I did.

In CentOS (where I'm doing it now though), your command it exactly what I should do to simplify that. I think I'll modify that now while I'm thinking about it as a matter of fact.

Edit: It was much earlier in the thread I explained my issue. It was the NAS's implementation of linux that I ran into compatibility issues with "date" among others.
