Apple should just use standard VGA compliant video cards. This capability was part of the CHRP specification and is utilized in the only CHRP motherboard still available, the
Pegasos. The Open Firmware on it can load the VGA Bios to provide frame buffer support until the OS drivers take over, and there is no good reason Apple could not or should not do the same.
