Mexican fishermen lost at sea for NINE MONTHS! Omg!

Blown 5,000 miles off-course when their boat ran out of gas!!!

They were actually sleeping when a Taiwanese tuna boat happened to spot them near the Marshall Islands.

Of course, their families thought they had been long dead.

They're from a village called San Blas.

I was there once. What an exotic little town it was - palm trees and iguanas along a nice river, sharks' teeth on the beach.

Slept in a sleeping bag on the roof-deck of a hotel, because when we got into town late at night, everything was closed.

I remember waking in the quiet of dawn, at first light, with a dark, heavily clouded sky close overhead and a few raindrops hitting me in the face. I could hear breezes rustling the nearby palms. I'm not sure why, but the simple beauty of the moment nearly brought me to tears. I'll never forget that lovely tropical morning.

Anyway, what an amazing story about these San Blas fishermen. They were lost at sea last November!
