I used to have a ton of lint in my 5S back in the day, often causing charging issues.

For some reason, this seems to have gotten less frequent. I may have still had it a few times on my 6S and 8, but I don't think I ever needed to clean my 11's Lightning port. Maybe Apple might some slight adjustments?
