I decided to post this in here to keep the thread count down. Besides, it fits.

So, Apple and Intel just announced that Apple has purchased the majority of Intel's wireless modem business for $1billion. Apparently, the Qualcomm shafting pushed Apple over the edge and they have now signaled their intention to go all in on wireless modems. Don't blame them a bit. Qualcomm has them bent over a barrel.

Apple is clearly working toward controlling all of their own silicon. So, how long will it be before A-series processors use Apple's own, proprietary modems, and will they be any good? My prediction: 2 years, and they will start out slightly behind, but will catch up with and surpass Qualcomm within 4 years.

Adding to that, how long will it be before Apple is rolling out their own cellular networks, now that they own a huge chunk of the technology to do so?

5 years? 10?
