Well, what you're going to find is that the bumper will run you $400 or so from the shop, and the junkyard will sell you one for $200. (or $100 depending on what you wear).
The auto place is still going to charge you $800 to take the old one off and put the new one on. So yeah, you'll save $200 or so, but you don't save the lion's share of the cost unless you do the labor yourself.
