Pretty great device at $329. Compared to the $599 Air, which is roughly the same size:
* worse CPU
* better front camera (probably for Center Stage); worse rear camera
* old pencil, no Magic Keyboard, etc.
* not laminated, which is both a pro (easier maintenance) and a con (looks worse)
* no wide color
* no Smart HDR
* no 4K video recording
The Air is (mostly) nicer, but it's not great that they've decided against upgrading it. In spring, when they introduced the iPad Pro and the iMac, it was like "here's Center Stage! And here's a computer where that feature would make a lot of sense, but… it doesn't have it!" Now, in fall, they introduce Center Stage on both the $329 iPad and the iPad mini — but don't upgrade the Air. So now the Air is the odd one out that doesn't have it, among the iPads. Stupid.
But.
On the bright side, like I said, it's a pretty damn good tablet at $329.
