Steve and Bono to co-host special event in March

The rumors were true: Apple Computer will hold a special invitation-only media event in San Francisco on the 1st of March, AppleInsider has learned.

"Please Join Steve and Bono," reads a red invitation with an AIDS awareness ribbon positioned at the center, which was sent to the media. "Together we can fight it."

The event is set to kick-off at 10:00 am at the Moscone West facility in San Francisco, Calif. on March 1st, 2006.

Previous reports had indicated that Apple was gearing up to host a special music event in late February, where the company would likely show several iPod and music-related products that failed to make an appearance at January's Macworld Expo.

The rumors were later fueled by a post in the January 20th edition of the popular celebrity gossip newsletter, Popbitch, which reported that Activist and rock singer Bono was overheard at Dublin's Michelin-starred Patrick Guilbaud restaurant "discussing a new charity red Am Ex card and red iPod."

The U2 frontman in January unveiled a charity project, dubbed Product Red, which hopes to raise money to help finance the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Africa by persuading the world's biggest companies to release special Product Red-branded goods, giving part of the profits to the fighting fund.
