i dont think its necessarily a bad idea, but depending on the recipient it may not have the desired outcome. when someone really close to me died, it took a very long time (years) for me to be able to hear someone talk about him without getting very upset. they'll probably be thinking about him this time of year, but we don't necessarily want to compound sadness by reminding them.
