Exactly. To me it’s crystal clear. Whether it’s ever confirmed or simply left to the viewer to realize/piece together, who knows? But I know what I’m going with, until told otherwise.
Artoo doesn’t get that chatty/animated for no reason. Across multiple movies spanning four decades, it’s solidly been established that’s his “excited/happy” behavior. He has no real reason to react that way to someone he’s never seen/met before...makes no sense.
He was seeing his little green buddy again after 25+ years (the Order 66 stuff took place 19BBY and this show takes place in 9ABY, that’s 28 years. Long enough to miss someone, not long enough to forget.
