I don't think .mac was really screwing anyone, after all, you weren't paying for anything. Apple doesn't owe you anything.

On the other hand, in the age of free 1 GB Gmail and free 100 MB Yahoo! mail, .mac's measely 15 MB email storage and 100 MB iDisk space seem pathetic. I know, it's for the whole package - you get a bunch of software that you never use (well, that I would never use) and I guess it's nicely integrated into the system... but come on, how hard is it to upload files to an FTP server if you want to go with a cheaper web hosting service that offers far more storage?

Come to think of it, $8.33 a month isn't even that bad. But I think it's strange that Apple makes it seem so much more expensive by demanding a one-time payment.
