I have a Lacie HD at work and one at home. Before I leave with my iBook I backup recent files. I have 2 remote backups this way.
You could even buy an empty FireWire enclosure, buy a fast "internal" hard disk drive and install it into the case yourself. Cheap "external" FW storage.
