• It does have the same number of pins as regular-sized DP.
• http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mini_DisplayPort claims:
  

  Current Mini DisplayPort adaptors do not support audio (although the port itself does)[citation needed].

• The LCD Cinema Display appears to pass audio through USB, not through mDP, suggesting the port may not support it.
• displayport.org is still a freaking useless site.
