But, that does not solve the problem of iPhones ~14, which all use Lightning and will no longer be
legally permitted in the lineup.
Apple will have to adjust the EU lineup so that the only phone they offer will be the iPhone 15 or iPhone 16 (whichever is first to USB-C, and I suspect that will be 2023's iPhone 15). All other iPhones will be illegal to sell. Thus, there will be a short period (2-3 years) where there will be no "low-end" iPhone available in the EU.
So, there will be a
crap-ton of legally-forced, incompatible, electronic waste*,
and iPhones will be more expensive.
* This is assuming that Apple will not include a Lightning to USB-C adapter in the box. They won't, because that would just be more waste.
