Tokyo's bid got the highest technical score. Rio got the lowest. I'm not going to write Rio off or anything -- I'm happy for them that they have a chance to really take the spotlight on the world stage -- but, yeah, being IIRC the first South American city to bid (and not being up against London or Paris
) certainly helped.
