Oh, I got a couple spankings. Only when I was little. I just don't think it would work for kids over, say, 6 or 7. As in, it would do more harm than good. Also, using an object is bad, because there's no point other than to just cause more pain, which won't make a difference. I remember when I got spankings, I cried mostly because of the humiliation and because I was totally restricted and couldn't move. Not because of the pain. They really didn't hurt.
