Apple picks graphics cards based on what will give them the best profit per unit, not what is best for users. That's nothing new, why does that surprise you? I think the last time Apple put a good GPU in a Mac was when the 8800GT/GTX was king of the hill for consumer GPUs, so ten years ago.
