I see that Home Depot recently invested in an IoT company called Afero, and am curious if that is a market for everyday investors to even get near.

A friend recently started working with an older company that has an IoT division, which is what caught my attention with Home Depot.

My ignorant-of-that-industry kneejerk reaction is that IoT will largely be contained in-house by manufacturers, who settle on standards and operate on off-the-shelf solutions to build into their products, meaning that investment in any one company is likely to be a low reward endeavor.

Do any of you geniuses know if I have that right?
