Punching people in the face is not minimum by any standard. There's no excuse for using violence. If he wanted to get arrested, a small property crime would have been enough. Preferably theft, not vandalism, so there is no damage to repair when you are "caught". Just grab anything at a store and walk out holding it in sight.
