Amazon just put out a new teaser for their Lord of the Rings series and I'm just... confused?

The teaser is just a voiceover of that poem "Three rings for the elven kings...". I thought Amazon's series was going to take place way earlier than the events in the LOTR books?
Didn't we already do this with Peter Jackson? Does Amazon really think they can top that?
