It's set to auto switch now. When it's not plugged in I believe it's defaulting to the integrated card, once I plugged it in it went back to the discreet card.
(interestingly enough, I just unplugged the power for a second to test, and the machine kept using the discreet card anyway. Right now it's set to auto switch for better performance, if I uncheck that box it's set to discreet all the time.)
If the answer is "the new laptop can't handle using Chrome" that's going to be an issue, as Chrome is the only browser that functions properly in a variety of online tools I need to use for work.
