Just a heads up really — I noticed over a year ago that the charging cable for my MacBookPro was yellowing in two spots that made little sense near the plug entering my computer. The cable never got warm.so I didn’t think it was the previously common issue associated with cable fraying and overheating. The cable plastic coating eventually failed sufficiently that I wasn’t comfortable continuing to use it. I took the opportunity to investigate the cause of the discoloring and it turns out that the inner coax wrapping had split in the two spots where the color was present. The insulating grease was able to diffuse between the active cables and the surface causing what I would guess was an electrochemical associated degradation and yellowing.
