Yes, for the extra $10 per month you're getting faster data. Yes, it's a reasonable increase for faster service. But Steve Jobs standing on stage saying "we want to make it even more affordable" and "at $199, we think the iPhone 3G is going to be affordable to almost everyone" is a deception. (That's what RDF is all about.) Purchasing and using an iPhone for two years will now cost $40 more than before.
