That may be a better question to ask Samsung, LG, Nokia and every other phone maker. A flip phone is smaller or larger when you need it to be. It's smaller because it fits in my pocket, but it's larger when pressed against my head.

It may have a smaller screen and less storage, but it's not like the new patent reduces its functionality. On the contrary it implies two additional touch surfaces to play with.
