Been using high end DSLR's (FF) and lenses for years now, but I do have to say that it is easier with wide angel lenses like the 16-35mm F4 VR (I'm a Nikon shooter), but I'm not that good, at least I don't think so.
[edited] Just put the 16-35mm F4 on my D750 for giggles, 1/8s wasn't that hard at all at 16mm.
Been so long since I've tried that I forgot. I personally like the effect of shutter speeds slower than 1s for this type of shot, but 1/8th works well enough.
This one, post here years ago, is how I do it, at around 30 seconds.
