While you (and I) have nothing to hide, it is more about the erosion of privacy. Especially when it is coming from Apple to put itself on a podium about their strong privacy stance.
Basically if no one stands up to the minor freedoms lost then we have no way to complain once "the line has been crossed".
To me, if all it takes to defeat this is not to use iCloud Photos then it is a complete waste of time.
