I figured you would be the reply here. haha
I just noticed it more living in NYC than I had before. When you're constantly walking within a foot or so of traffic and these trucks are right next to you, it's very apparent that these trucks (at least the ones in the city) are oversized and inappropriate.
I've also noticed the size more as we've gotten a Mini Cooper and am driving much closer to the ground than we were in our Q7.
I understand that these size trucks with big beds have a purpose and a use case, but it just seems like most of the truck lines have gotten bigger just to get bigger.
