It’s not your imagination, there are plenty of older 6-8ft bed trucks that aren’t 8-9 feet tall. They don’t need to be, it’s just what the “truck guy” and “pro” auto reviewers, and many buyers demand, whether they need it or not.

And the most common truck bed size sold on half ton trucks is 5-5.4ft. People aren’t buying them for the utilities they of a truck, more often than not. People towing toy haulers, camping trailers and boats I get. It’s the ones that don’t that puzzle me. You could get a much, much nicer vehicle for the same money.
