I drive a Toyota Tundra with a 5.5' bed. It gets used as a truck. Towing, hauling, etc. It's more comfortable to drive than most cars, and the only thing I don't like is the sucky truck MPG business. But, without it I would have to rent a truck all the time, which would be dumb.
That said, I'm not sure I understand the importance of owning a big pickup in a place like NYC. For a pro, it seems like a van would be a better fit, unless one is regularly hauling refrigerators or something like that. Otherwise, smaller is better in a big city with narrow streets. Owning a truck just to own a truck — you know, for 'Murica — is dumb.
