If it's any consolation, pronunciation guides in dictionaries are a pain in the ass for pretty much everybody, so no worries there.
I think the only word in the sum of my existence that I've actually learned how to
pronounce from a dictionary is
crêpe, and that was only after much hardship and despair. Which is totally unfair to crêpes, which are, of course, sweet or savory filled pancakes.
