I agree. None of these three things are "mindblowing game-changers". That's no slam at all on any of them, of course. I'm simply saying they're all offshoots or variations of existing products and tech. What is Apple going to honestly say about an 8" iPad that a) isn't obvious and b) requires a dedicated event?

Same with the other two. I don't think the iMac (or any Mac, except for maybe the Air) carries much prestige or weight at Apple these days. I don't think customers or Apple truly get that wound up about new iMacs because that's just not where everyone's head is these days, and, honestly...what's exciting about an aluminum display on a stand at this point? The jellybean and lampshade era are long behind us, along with that sort of "OMG!!!" design. 10 years ago, things couldn't be colorful, swoopy and "out there" enough. These days, when everything's a minimalist aluminum or white rounded-corner square, there just isn't that same giddy lust and eye-porn (iPorn?) there once was. I'd love to be proven wrong, believe me!

As for the 13" MacBook Pro, I don't even know why the hell this machine even exists at this point.

All these things together, yeah, might warrant an event. But Apple usually seems very focused and specific at these things. This is a mish-mash, to me...a desktop that doesn't carry the allure and presence it once did, a 2" smaller version of something Apple has sold three generations of already and a laptop that isn't quite thin/light enough to be an Air, but I can't imagine it being a hardcore professionals choice of notebook. Buy the 15" (or an Air) and shut the hell up.

I know Jim Dalrymple gave it a "yep" (or did he?) but I'm not fully sold for some reason.

I can't picture, logistically and the thought of bringing everyone back out to the Bay Area again, so soon, Apple having another event so quickly (within a month?!) after the iPhone 5 event. I know it's not on their dime, but I still can't see them asking that of others so soon. Has Apple ever staged two such events (product rollouts/introductions) one month apart? I can't recall. And I'm not talking about an event taking place within a month or so of an already-established presentation (like MWSF or WWDC), but two "dedicated event" scenarios (either at Moscone, Yerba Buena or at the Infinite Loop auditorium).

I don't recall such a thing.

$5 says the iPhone 5 stays on Apple's homepage for at least two months solid. Other things (new iMac, etc.) might get one of the four squares down below, but this is all iPhone 5 for the next while, I'm betting...
