I think they have innovated through the laptop line quite well. It is the desktop line that has been neglected. The "why" I don't think has anything to do with not caring. I think it has more to do with timing. Apple is very busy developing their next-generation offering, which includes laptops and iOS devices. Mobile is big, obviously. But I still hold out hope that Apple still sees the validity of the desktop and its place in the "post-pc" world they have created.
