Another thing this thread reminds me of is an article in the WSJ talking about Vanilla Coke. A product no one ever asked for and an advertised ingredient that was already in coke.

As for the Shuffle's screenless-ness, I thought it was the solution to the problem that people wanted
cheaper iPods. The lack of screen reduced the cost and extended the battery life.
