You are suggesting that this is like letting go of anyone. He was a top level executive who had been mentioned as a potential CEO candidate. He was/is involved with Apple's products and decisions at the highest level and likely "knows all". Knowledge alone about concepts, product pipeline, strategies is pretty valuable. His flaws don't matter. The stuff he knows and has knowledge of is priceless.
