I like their early-mid 70’s stuff the most. But a great batch of songs, from the 60’s, 70’s and early 80’s.

Most folks don’t know he’s the president of the Boise chapter of the Taylor Swift fan cub, the TayTay Brigade. And he’s slowly warning to Cardi B.and her bi-monthly cooter anthems. Is any of the above a ban-able offense? I guess I’ll find out. Hahahahahaha |

Oh, you clowns slay me. Never did like the Stones. Or the Beatles. Or the Eagles. Or a lot of other pop-music … stuff. Don't know who Phish is, but I do like fish. Taylor Swift can suck a nail, and Cardi B sounds like a health issue (figuratively and literally). Best thing about a music discussion is how bad everyone becomes if they don't like your guy. It's a bit like sports and politics. - AppleNova is the best Mac-users forum on the internet. We are smart, educated, capable, and helpful. Speaking of music, "This seems like a politically and socially good time to file a ridiculous lawsuit, so I will!"
I first saw this on the local news website and had to laugh. I need to pull out some of my baby nudes and sue someone! At some point in the past, someone approached this guys parent's and said, "We want to do a music album cover and want a little naked baby on the cover. Can we borrow the kid?" Parents" "Damned tutin'! Li'l Spence will that us for this some day." Studio: "Sign here." Done. Deal finished. Only in the woke, easily triggered 1st-world of the west is this anything other than an innocent image of a naked baby—swimming after a buck! Every American's dream. I'm sorry, I know it's a sensitive subject, but this chump is reaching for cash, and nothing else. He's not at all concerned about his delusions of pornographic sexual exploitation of a child. He and his lawyer are just hoping for a quick settlement so the label and the band members can crawl back into their graves. The Gerber babies are all next. I bet those Nestlé folks re scrambling around in a fit, right now. "Oh, shit! The naked babies have all grown up into little, woke twit-wads!" - AppleNova is the best Mac-users forum on the internet. I never quite got the fascination with the Stones. I guess they weren't as timeless as the Beatles; maybe I would understand better if I had been a child of the Vietnam era.
U2 had its moment and, well, that has passed. |

If anybody has this sort of standing to put up a fuss, it's those 70's children that did covers like Blind Faith, Scorpion's Virgin Killer and maybe even Zeppelin's Houses of the Holy. It might not be evolution though, at least not an inheritable feature -- modern mothers may be healthier (or less healthy) than their prior counter parts and there are reasons to suspect that this is the cause (4 generations is way too quick for an in utero developmental change to propagate through natural selection in a large human population)

Thinking about the Rolling Stones from earlier upthread, and that time I saw them in Nashville. Being a big stadium show, like they do, I knew it would be a spectacle...the video screens on either side of the stage (thankfully, since we were at the opposite end of the stadium, second from the very top row...only one other group of people had a farther away seat than us ), but they had their usual assortment of extra stage personnel/musicians (keyboards, a horn section and three backup singers). Par for the course, I'd seen footage from previous tours, etc.
But, halfway through the show the lights went down. "Intermission? Oxygen break? They are old, after all...". And this little square stage in the center of the stadium, where everyone was standing, was uncovered (I'd seen it all night and just assumed it was sound equipment next to the big sound/light board in the center of the field). But they climbed up on it (couldn't have been more than 16’ square) and Charlie had this little stripped-down drum kit, Keith and Ron were playing hollow body Gibson guitars and old, small Fender tweed amps and their keyboardist came with them and was just playing what looked to be a regular upright piano. And with no fancy lights, horns, other vocalists, etc. they played about a 20-minute set of blues and early Chuck Berry/Bo Diddley-type rock 'n' roll. It was, by far, the highlight of the show for me. They sounded like a band. Two guitars, drums, bass and a tinkling, boogie-woogie piano, and then Mick singing "Around and Around", "Oh Carol", "Little Red Rooster" and others. I remember thinking "I would've paid this crazy-ass admission to see an entire 90+ minutes of this! Screw the big stage and the extra eight bodies on stage!" They sounded the way they probably did back in early 60's England, in the clubs...pre-fame, pre-arenas/stadiums, etc. It was so cool to see them "get back to their roots" like that, and just play straight ahead three-chord rock 'n' roll and blues, the way they started out. Keith was playing all those Chuck Berry parts note-for-note, and he and Ron Wood both got to sing lead on a couple of songs. It was, for a brief period, the tightest, most rocking little bar band I'd ever seen. I was sad when that part of the show was over! "So this is what the Rolling Stones would sound, and look, like in a tiny dive bar somewhere? Awesome!" I don't know if that's something they do on every tour - this is the only time I ever saw them live - but, if so, fans get a treat to see them so "small", stripped down and just doing it the old-fashioned way. Back to "real" news (and not my concert memories from 20+ years ago).
This was surprising to me. They're a forgiving bunch, those Kennedys. Well, two of them, anyway. Not sure that really means much, big picture. Kinda wonder what the rest of the clan thinks about it? Including a few who are no longer around? If that were my dad who was killed in the hotel kitchen that night, I'm not sure if I could throw in with/support the man who pulled the trigger...no matter how long it's been. But, then, I tend to be the unforgiving, grudge-holding type. I can't walk in their shoes. Everyone has their reasons/beliefs (just like I have mine). This doesn't means he's released. But it's the first step in the process of doing so, should some other procedures/reviews go his way. |

Flipping around the channels, I passed the Weather Channel where I see who I can only assume is that showboat idiot Jim Cantore standing in the middle of all this rain and really heavy wind in Louisiana (it might be Mississippi, I think I saw a caption saying that), with an overturned dumpster in the frame (nice touch...a production assistant/intern probably dragged it from two blocks away and knocked it over on its side before turning on the camera), doing the whole "I'm standing out here in all this shit for no real reason, other than lunging for an Emmy or AMS award like the look-at-me, attention-seeker I am!" shtick.
Nothing turns middle-aged media personalities into junior high chicks on TikTok quite like a good hurricane. These outlets always feel they have to send their crews/reporters out into this stuff...to tell people NOT to get out in this stuff! I hate this kind of "journalism". Everyone has an iPhone and access to YouTube. There isn't a soul on the planet who doesn't know what a hurricane looks like as it comes onshore. Knock this nonsense off already. "I...I...can barely stand...upright!" Okay...thanks? Then maybe get your dumb ass back to the Sheraton, like you have some sense? Nobody's asking you to stand out there in flying debris, horizontal rain and rising waters, bonehead. That's how people get hurt/die, last I checked. These clowns will not be happy until one of them gets half their head sliced off on live TV by a flying metal roof/airborne stop sign. But it might be the very thing that reins in this pointless, for-all-the-wrong-reasons silliness. PS - I also like how the in-studio on-air staff - those who aren't stupid enough to travel to Louisiana and stand out in the middle of all this - cultivate the bedraggled, haggard "I've not slept in over 52 hours in order to keep you and your family safe!" look. There's an anchor on The Weather Channel who, for some reason, has opted to look like a Florida mug shot that has come to life. You're in a safe, dry studio...hundreds of miles away from Louisiana. Run a brush through your hair and put on some makeup if you're going to get on TV. All of you can't be gunning for an Emmy, ffs... Last edited by psmith2.0 : 2021-08-29 at 19:59. |

It kind of like when we have a snow storm and the news people go out and say, "it's snowing really hard, stay home today" while showing a bunch of cars crashing into each other on the icy roads. I'm always thinking, 'no sh*t Sherlock'.

Yep, exactly.
Guys, stay in and stay safe. You don't have to stand out in this stuff - hurricanes, blizzards, tornados, floods, etc. - for people to "see" what it looks like. They know already, I assure you. And you're just grandstanding (and probably thinking about your future demo reel). And it's going to go horribly sideways one day. "He was a one-of-a-kind visionary and his passion was the weather..." No, he was an idiot, and his "passion" made a telephone pole fall on his head for all to see on basic cable. |

You know, I don't miss that about Va Beach. The local news people were such idiots. They were competing with the Weather Channel and sucked.

Yeah, I flipped around the dial a bit last night and every network had reporters/crew out in these conditions all doing the same shtick. No one network/outlet has the market cornered on this idiocy...they were all doing it: ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, Fox News, MSNBC, The Weather Channel, along with a couple of channels I'd never really noticed/knew about.
Reporters in logo'd ponchos telling everyone it was windy, wet and dangerous. No shit, because I was kinda wondering if maybe a Category 4-5 was or not? I wasn't sure on my own. I think about how my local news acts when iffy weather hits our area (tornado threat, an ice storm, the occasional, once-a-decade 3-4" snow event, etc.). They do the same thing, all these local reporters. They dutifully put on the logo-emblazoned poncho or parka and trudge out into the shittiest conditions possible to say stuff everyone at home is already completely aware of. "I know it's icy...I've already fallen off my porch twice, Genniffer. But thanks for standing out in the middle of a frozen interstate to let me know. You might wanna keep an eye on those 18-wheelers behind you...you're way too young/hot to die that way." Clowns, all. |

Our local paper features the "crappy snow pic of the day" in a sort of parody of that. Almost entirely photos taken out peoples' windows.
