I bought my 2.0Ghz black Macbook back in November 2007 and instantly upgraded it to 2Gb of RAM. Now my friend is having major issues with her 1.83Ghz white Macbook which I think is a Ver. 1. The airport and various functions of her computer keeps on freezing forcing her to reboot 3-4 times a day.
So I figured, I could go ahead and hop on eBay and buy 4gb (2X2Gb) ram modules and then give my friend the extra 2Gb ram (2x1Gb). Although I believe my Macbook can only handle read 3gb of RAM, would 4 Gb of RAM work? Furthermore, I've experimented with my computer with 3Gb of ram (1x1Gb, 1x3Gb) and although my computer could read that I had 3Gb of ram, my Macbook had obvious slower functions. So I made it back to 2Gb again. |

If your Macbook is the newest model it should be able to handle 4GBs. If it is the generation before the current model, then it can only use 3GBs.
If you are not sure, just check and see what graphics card your machine has, if it has the GMA 950 its the older model, if it has the GMA x3100 then you have the current model. You will notice a speed difference if you do not use Dual channel RAM (when two of the same size and type are used, dual channel mode is enabled). |
