Hi everyone,

Does anybody know if a "new " imac is "in store" somewhere? Last week I finally decided to switch from an old laptop (pc I know nobody's perfect) to a 20 or 24" imac. The very nice very talented young man told me I should wait because "something's new was coming" although he did not know clearly what it would be! He just said that"rumors" were crawling about new imac, new price... So if someone has the real info, please do tell, is it worth waiting for and going on with my "nice PC" for a while ?

Ok, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, before you get flamed!

Your post reads kind of genuine so anyway:

As far as I know there is no new iMac due imminently, and this is the first time I've even heard such a comment.

No offence, but the web tends to spawn the more genuine rumours rather than some shop assistant! So unless the guy is Steve Jobs favourite nephew or something, I'd say to go ahead and make a purchase.

Having said that, the specs do usually get a small bump and/or the price drops every 6 months or so.

I ordered my new iMac last week, it should be here any day. Expect a new iMac next Tuesday.

The MacRumors Buying Guide has it a bit past mid-cycle, and if you look at the average update span (189 days), you'll see it's on track - if history is anything to go by - for possibly something happening in another ~60 days (mid-March or early April...probably about the time Leopard is ready to roar, and when the shipping delay in the iPhone will be announced).



Then again, murbot's recent purchase probably seals the deal at an announcement next Tuesday.
