Do you know something... I am still amazed at my 24 inches and I got it when they first came out!
I have just got back from my parents helping them with my old 20" G5 iMac which they love too! and boy does it look small compared to this! I remember when I had the 20" and thought jeez how can people work on a 17" iMac.. it's tiny! I can honestly say this has been the best computer ever (with my 20" iMac too) compared to the days where I used 95-XP (including Vista), the screen is fab, bright, crystal, just the right size for me for photos, web surfing email, iweb, photoshop, iMovie etc etc etc (everything I do it's great!). Some days I can use it just for Safari, some days Email and some days, just mucking about - I have had a Mac for about a 1 + half now and still finding cool things such as expose etc (cannot find squiggle)! - The only downside which is a bit of a niggle for me being in IT is that I dare not even try to replace the 250GB HDD I took the front off and thought 'ahh - better not'! This thing is soooo quiet I cannot hear it - even with my ear against it! Edit: I must admit when I got mine I thought bloody hell this is massive, more space (ish) required etc, I had safari wide open (like in windows full screen) but now I have mastered the green blob to maximise to the correct size which looks a lot better than having a full white screen for a bit of text in google etc... Trust me, you will get use to it and then it will look right! |

1. the standard hard drive is assslow. 2. I'm already filling it pretty quickly since I have an El Gato EyeTV Hybrid and record HD broadcasts 3. Replacing the HD with a nice affordable 500 or 750 GB HD yourself voids the warranty. I don't feel like paying an Apple tech a ridiculous fee to replace my HD just so I can keep my warranty |

When you say it's not good for surfing, do you by chance have a habit of making your browser window fill the entire screen?
If so, try making your web browsing windows smaller, like the size they would be on a 17" monitor or so, and use the extra screen real estate to do other things. Google is your frenemy. Caveat Emptor - Latin for tough titty I tend to interpret things in the way that's most hilarious to me |

Remember: novels and newspapers have relatively narrow columns because that makes blocks of text easier to read! When was the last time you saw a newspaper column any more than, say, five or six inches wide? The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. I got back and forth on whether it's too big. I think the problem that I see with the iMac as much as I love the current design, the standard stand doesn't allow you to adjust the height of the screen...and that chin...why is that still there? The chin doesn't bother me as much, but the in grand scheme of things, you've gotta wonder.

My only gripe so far with mine is that the angle of the built in iSight is a little low. I have to tilt the iMac back a little to avoid cutting the image off at my eyes. Of course, it's at the perfect height for my kids. I would like to be able to adjust the height without simply putting something underneath it. That, or the ability to adjust the anlge of the iSight.
As for the screen real estate, I love it. I can browse the internet, watch TV, and still have space for other things if needed. Do you know where children get all of their energy? - They suck it right out of their parents! |

Plus, the iMac would look really plain without it. And it's hardly distracting, especially with a 24" screen.

Well, I think black and white two tone would still be better than the iMac in its current state.
Does anyone actually like it? I often see comments like it's not so bad or you really don't notice it. But shouldn't an Apple design be like OMG that computer is teh sex! |
