I bought one a couple of months back...... Well I wish I had saved my money, it's to bloody big. It’s just. Well 'there'
Not really any good to the home surfing human more for the tech type of people that do lay-outs and stuff.

I much prefer my 15in G4 (Pudding bowl with the floating screen).

Any one else has a comment on the 24in iMac

How does it function any differently or so much worse for "surfing" than the older iMacs? Both are all-in-ones that keep you seated at a desk. Both run the same software. Your new one is just faster with a bigger screen.

I'm sorry to see that you're disappointed in your purchase. Did you try them out in-store?

When he's looking at porn, he feels inadequate because all the guys', ummmm, members are so much bigger on the 24" screen than they were on the 15" screen. Or something like that.

If it's not red and showing substantial musculature, you're wearing it wrong.

Do you know something... I am still amazed at my 24 inches and I got it when they first came out!

I have just got back from my parents helping them with my old 20" G5 iMac which they love too! and boy does it look small compared to this! I remember when I had the 20" and thought jeez how can people work on a 17" iMac.. it's tiny!

I can honestly say this has been the best computer ever (with my 20" iMac too) compared to the days where I used 95-XP (including Vista), the screen is fab, bright, crystal, just the right size for me for photos, web surfing email, iweb, photoshop, iMovie etc etc etc (everything I do it's great!).

Some days I can use it just for Safari, some days Email and some days, just mucking about - I have had a Mac for about a 1 + half now and still finding cool things such as expose etc (cannot find squiggle)!

- The only downside which is a bit of a niggle for me being in IT is that I dare not even try to replace the 250GB HDD I took the front off and thought 'ahh - better not'!

This thing is soooo quiet I cannot hear it - even with my ear against it!

Edit: I must admit when I got mine I thought bloody hell this is massive, more space (ish) required etc, I had safari wide open (like in windows full screen) but now I have mastered the green blob to maximise to the correct size which looks a lot better than having a full white screen for a bit of text in google etc...

Trust me, you will get use to it and then it will look right!

Kind of a big downside...
1. the standard hard drive is assslow.
2. I'm already filling it pretty quickly since I have an El Gato EyeTV Hybrid and record HD broadcasts
3. Replacing the HD with a nice affordable 500 or 750 GB HD yourself voids the warranty.

I don't feel like paying an Apple tech a ridiculous fee to replace my HD just so I can keep my warranty

When you say it's not good for surfing, do you by chance have a habit of making your browser window fill the entire screen?

If so, try making your web browsing windows smaller, like the size they would be on a 17" monitor or so, and use the extra screen real estate to do other things.

Google is your frenemy.

Ah, yes, that could be it! I've seen someone at work maximize windows (including a CHAT window, of all things) on a 23" widescreen display. The vast majority of the screen was dead whitespace. This has to be one of the silliest and more ridiculous things people do.

Remember: novels and newspapers have relatively narrow columns because that makes blocks of text easier to read! When was the last time you saw a newspaper column any more than, say, five or six inches wide?

I find OmniOutliner and Adium are good apps for filling up desktop space that's not currently being used.

I got back and forth on whether it's too big. I think the problem that I see with the iMac as much as I love the current design, the standard stand doesn't allow you to adjust the height of the screen...and that chin...why is that still there? The chin doesn't bother me as much, but the in grand scheme of things, you've gotta wonder.

My only gripe so far with mine is that the angle of the built in iSight is a little low. I have to tilt the iMac back a little to avoid cutting the image off at my eyes. Of course, it's at the perfect height for my kids. I would like to be able to adjust the height without simply putting something underneath it. That, or the ability to adjust the anlge of the iSight.

As for the screen real estate, I love it. I can browse the internet, watch TV, and still have space for other things if needed.

Speakers, cooling hardware, a RAM slot, and some circuitry.

Plus, the iMac would look really plain without it. And it's hardly distracting, especially with a 24" screen.

Oh no way!

The chin is hideous!

If it was technically necessary, I think they should have two-toned it, perhaps in your choice of five fruity colors?

No, let's not go back to that please. No more colors, unless they're black or white.

Well, I think black and white two tone would still be better than the iMac in its current state.

Does anyone actually like it?

I often see comments like it's not so bad or you really don't notice it. But shouldn't an Apple design be like OMG that computer is teh sex!

I see where you're coming from, it's just I get tired of PC users always summing up Mac users as people who only buy Macs because they're useful, not also because they make our productivity better.

I actually really like the design of the current iMacs. I'd say it's almost perfect.

Me too.

And while I wouldn't mind Apple bringing back Teh Colors, a "two-toned" chin on the iMac would look positively hideous. Sorry, Aslan.

Blech.

All or none. The ColorWare iMacs look far better in my book.

I have to agree with Brad. I feel like it has to be all one color if they are going to do colors. Maybe I will change my mind if I saw one in person (if ever released) but as of now, I feel like all one color would look much better.

So nobody likes the two tone look then?

I thought it broke up the chin rather well, it seems there's no accounting for taste

I think the two tone scheme puts quite a lot of (unneeded) emphasis on the chin. One suddenly starts to notice it, so to say.

The speakers are decent. A HUGE upgrade from my titanium powerbook's (that's not saying much) but i no longer even plug in my external speakers.
