Running Tiger on a powerbook, though this problem was present on 10.3.9 before I upgraded. Here's the problem:
I mistakenly added a folder to the sidebar in the Desktop Background prefpane. Now I can't remove the *$(@$ folder. Delete, ctrl-click to get a context menu, Apple-Delete... these do nothing with the folders listed in the prefpane sidebar. Also can't drag it out of the sidebar. (Note, this is the prefpane sidebar, not the finder sidebar.) Anyone have any idea how to get rid of a folder from that list? Is there a plist I can edit? EDIT -- oops.. can a mod move this to Genius Bar? Sorry. heh. Last edited by socratic : 2005-05-09 at 00:30. Reason: Posted in the wrong place |

The folder that's in that pane is simply the last folder you selected with the "choose folder" button. Simply choose another folder and the old one will go away!
Yeah, it's not very obvious. Moving to Genius Bar! The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting. |

That's almost remarkably obtuse. Thanks. Problem fixed.
Editorial comment: As a switcher of 14 months, I think I'm finally hitting that point where things in the OS that aren't obvious and simple are shocking. Lordy. |
