Hi
just got an ipod mini with the supplied USB cable which I need to use to charge it via my computer. just wondering, when I travel with my ipod and do not want to take with me my computer could I buy a powered USB hub and use that to charge my ipod, instead of spending money on the dock I get a multifunctional piece of kit.... |

No, well at least not with modern USB hubs. Most USB hubs made nowadays are "smart", meaning that they don't supply power to the ports unless they know they are connected to a computer. If you are dead set on using a USB hub to charge your iPod while traveling, your best bet is to buy a really old powerd usb 1.0 hub. My advice - just get the charger unless anyone else here knows of a powered router that will work.
Sometimes ... things that are expensive ... are worse. |
