Yay a Special Event was announced!

http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=1537

A red iPod? could that be the only reason for this special event? Or maybe a new iPod... the True Video iPod that we keep hearing about...

I don´t think that the red iPod in its own would be enough for a special event. What do you guys think we´ll see at this event?

I think it will be a special coloured iPod / donations from the iTMS.

edit: Looks like the story got pulled. Anyone else not seeing it on AI's front page?

Kasper on AI claims it was a joke by someone. So no event.

edit: U2 is playing in Argentina March 1. Definitely a prank.

Please quote articles when posting them. AppleInsider's judicious and pervasive integration of ads (and my efforts to block them) have rendered their articles pages unreadable.

well, couldn´t it mean a new True Video iPod that would come in red to help the cause?

wow, the story was pulled! that was fast!!!

let me put the transcript here:

Steve and Bono to co-host special event in March

By Katie Marsal
Published: 12:00 PM EST

The rumors were true: Apple Computer will hold a special invitation-only media event in San Francisco on the 1st of March, AppleInsider has learned.

"Please Join Steve and Bono," reads a red invitation with an AIDS awareness ribbon positioned at the center, which was sent to the media. "Together we can fight it."

The event is set to kick-off at 10:00 am at the Moscone West facility in San Francisco, Calif. on March 1st, 2006.

Previous reports had indicated that Apple was gearing up to host a special music event in late February, where the company would likely show several iPod and music-related products that failed to make an appearance at January's Macworld Expo.

The rumors were later fueled by a post in the January 20th edition of the popular celebrity gossip newsletter, Popbitch, which reported that Activist and rock singer Bono was overheard at Dublin's Michelin-starred Patrick Guilbaud restaurant "discussing a new charity red Am Ex card and red iPod."

The U2 frontman in January unveiled a charity project, dubbed Product Red, which hopes to raise money to help finance the fight against HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Africa by persuading the world's biggest companies to release special Product Red-branded goods, giving part of the profits to the fighting fund.

It's only unreadable because the story got pulled.

Sites have to make revenue somehow.

I don´t have the time right now to post the image of the fake invitation online, but if someone wants me to email it to them, just write me

What is the deal with all this "Apple Special Event" fakery of late?

Has it replaced "recutting movie trailers for a different look/effect" as the official geek hobby now?

Too bad it's not an Olympic event...we'd have 35 gold medals by now!

There's no doubting this but I do find AI's ads very distracting. Perhaps it's just the advertisers they work with.
